Mazda has issued two separate recalls affecting more than 183,000 vehicles in total due to issues with airbags not deployed and indicator lights that may not flash.
According to a notification posted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the recall will affect 183,656 vehicles, including certain vehicles in the following models:
- Airbag problems: 2024-2025 CX-30 and 2024-2025 Mazda3
- Indicator light problem：2024-2025 Mazda MX-5

The majority of Mazda cars being recalled (171,412) were due to airbag issues. The vehicle was recalled as the airbags were not deployed in a crash, which could increase the risk of injury.
According to Mazda, certain 2024-2025 Mazda3 and CX30 vehicles may have a faulty airbag sensor setting the error code, and may disable the airbag due to low battery condition.
The vehicle was built in Mexico and Japan between May 2023 and January 2025. Mazda began investigating the issue after someone in the US market reported an issue with the airbag warning light in June 2024.
“At the time, Mazda decided that the issue was unsafe as it was due to customer use and/or errors of leaving the ignition in the ‘on’ position for more than two hours without starting the engine,” the company said. “This exhausted the battery to a level that prevented the engine from starting, and the airbag warning light was illuminated after the battery was charged, and the engine was started.”
To fix the issue, the dealer will either reprogram the airbag sensor unit with new software or replace the unit for free. Mazda said it plans to mail the owner’s notification letter by July 28th.

According to the automaker, the rest of the Mazda cars, which recall this week (12,244), may be imagining them.
The company said vehicle indicator lights will illuminate the lights and will not be able to alert drivers about issues with traction control or dynamic stability control systems, increasing the likelihood that they will crash.
Indicator Light Recalls include specific 2024-2025 Mazda MX-5 vehicles.
Mazda said it identified the issue after its supplier discovered a software error in February. The company added that in March it made mass production changes with software improvements.
“As of May 19, 2025, Mazda is not aware of any reports of accidents or injuries related to this concern,” the company wrote. “And as of this date, no field reports have been received from the US and US territories.”
Mazda said the dealer will replace the dynamic stability control unit for free. The company will mail the owner’s notification letter by July 21st.
