John Smoltz prefers Scheffler and McIlroy over liv
Ahead of the American Century Celebrity Golf Tournament, Baseball Hall of Fame John Smoltz is breaking down the best celebrity golfers and breaking down why he prefers PGA over LIV.
Golfer Maxhoma took a rare step on Monday to turn the season around.
After dropping out of the top 60 in the official world golf rankings, the six-time PGA Tour winner had to take part in the upcoming US Open by participating in the 36-hole final qualifying tournament.
And do it while carrying his own bag.
After filming 77 in the final round of the Memorial Tournament last weekend, Homa appeared without a caddy at Kinsale Golf and Fitness Club, outside Columbus, Ohio, and bid to grab one of the six available spots.
When asked why Homa was flying solo in qualifying, it was not detailed.
“It seems better when, for some reason, someone isn’t standing next to me,” Homa said. “So I might need to walk more alone.”
The novel’s approach was almost rewarded as Homa became the final spot playoff. However, fellow Tour Pro Cameron Young will shut out Houma, Ricky Fowler and two others and will be contested at the Oakmont Country Club outside Pittsburgh in two weeks.
Homa started the year comfortably within the top 60 of the rankings. However, after a series of missed cuts, he and the longtime Caddy Joe Greiner bid farewell before the Master.
When he arrived at Monday’s qualifying event, the new Caddy Bill Haake was nowhere to be found. And Homa was not in the mood to answer any questions about it.
“I haven’t carried 36 holes of bags in a while so I’m a bit tired,” Homa said.
He has another opportunity to qualify for the US Open – at the RBC Canada Open this week. Though he would need to win the tournament to do so.
