Paramount announced that it will acquire The Free Press, an independent digital media company founded in 2021. As part of the acquisition, Bari Weiss, co-founder and CEO of The Free Press, will become editor-in-chief of CBS News.
Maurice Dubois has parted ways with the CBS Evening News after 15 years, leaving the program without an anchor at the end of this month.
His last broadcast will be Dec. 18 after more than 21 years with the network, dating back to 2004 when he was at New York City station WCBS-TV, he announced in an Instagram post on Thursday, Dec. 4.
“This was the honor of a lifetime,” he wrote. “What an honor! To be welcomed into your homes every night to bring you the news, meet special people, and tell their stories. I will leave full of gratitude, important relationships, and great memories. Only a few more weeks. Until then, I’ll see you every night on CBS Evening News at 6:30 p.m.”
The Long Island native and Northwestern University graduate has covered a variety of topics throughout his career, moderated political debates, and won five Emmy Awards.
Who will replace Maurice Dubois at “CBS Evening News”?
Dubois, along with co-anchor John Dickerson, will leave the show by the end of 2025, but CBS has not yet announced who will replace them next year. USA TODAY has reached out to CBS for comment.
Dickerson announced in an Oct. 27 Instagram post that he was stepping down as co-anchor and chief political analyst for CBS News, but did not provide a reason for his resignation.
“I am extremely grateful for everything CBS has given me, the work, the audience attention, and the honor of being part of the network’s history. I am also grateful to my dear colleagues who have made me a better journalist and a better person,” he wrote. “i will miss you.”
The network confirmed that he will continue to co-anchor “CBS Evening News” through the holiday season, but it’s unclear who will be watching in January.
