NEW YORK — Matt Damon, who stars in Netflix’s new film The Rip, wore a pin protesting the recent ICE shootings of Renee Nicole Goode and Keith Porter to the film’s premiere on Tuesday, January 13th.

Ms. Good was shot and killed by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Officer Jonathan Ross in Minneapolis on January 7, and Ms. Porter was shot and killed by an off-duty ICE officer in Southern California on New Year’s Eve.

The pins, which read “BE GOOD” and “ICE OUT,” were created by a grassroots coalition that includes the American Civil Liberties Union. This pin was worn by several celebrities at the Golden Globe Awards ceremony.

Damon wore a BE GOOD pin as he walked the red carpet at the premiere with his The Rip co-star Ben Affleck.

“I think like millions of people across the country, we’re very concerned about what’s going on,” Damon, 55, told USA TODAY. “And I think the purpose is to raise awareness about what’s going on in our cities and on our streets. Hopefully, it will foster a larger discussion about this.”

Damon is no stranger to advocating for causes outside of Hollywood. The Oscar winner co-founded Water.org, a nonprofit organization that helps people in poverty access clean water and improved sanitation. He and Affleck are also members of the nonprofit organization Feeding America’s Entertainment Council.

In addition to starring in the film, Damon and Affleck are also producing The Rip through their production company, Artists Equity.

Mark Ruffalo, Wanda Sykes, Jean Smart and Natasha Lyonne also wore ICE protest pins on Sunday’s Golden Globes red carpet.

“This is for Renee Nicole Good, who was murdered,” Ruffalo said on the red carpet, before turning to President Donald Trump. “He’s the worst human being. We’re all going to be in trouble if we rely on this man’s morals for the most powerful country in the world.”

As for Trump, he promised “retaliation and retaliation” in Minnesota on Tuesday, January 13, a day after Minnesota officials filed a lawsuit seeking to stop the sending of immigration officials to the state.

Bill Maher, host of HBO’s “Real Time with Bill Maher,” didn’t think pins were necessary on the awards red carpet. The comedian received a Golden Globe nomination thanks to his stand-up special “Is Anybody Else Seeing This?” Maher lost to Ricky Gervais.

Maher said of Good’s death, “It’s a horrible thing that happened and it shouldn’t have happened. If they hadn’t acted like such thugs, this wouldn’t have happened.” “But you don’t have to put a pin on it.”
