Mark Carney won the Canadian election to maintain his power as Prime Minister.
WASHINGTON – Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney told President Donald Trump in person that Canada is “unsold” as two men met in an oval office last week from Kearney, where his Liberal Party had a huge election victory.
“As we know from real estate, there are some places that aren’t for sale. We’re sitting in one now,” Carney told Trump at the beginning of the high-stakes bilateral meeting at the White House on May 6th.
“In the past few months, I have met with Canadian owners in the course of the campaign, and it will not be sold.,” he said. “But opportunities are partnerships and what we can build together.”
After Canada took over quite a bit in the vote, Carney was able to seize Canada targeting Trump rhetoric, including Trump’s hopes to turn Canada into “51st state” to chase him into the April 28 election victory. Carney replaced the liberal Justin Trudeau as Canadian Prime Minister in March.
The prime minister’s comments came after Trump told reporters he believed Canada would be better part of the United States.
“I still believe it, but it takes two to tango, right?” Trump said. “I believe it will be a massive tax cut for Canadian citizens. You will get a free military, you will get rid of incredible medical care and more. There are many benefits.”
Trump asked a reporter if Carney’s position would make discussion more difficult.
“You’ll know the time,” he said. “It’s just time, but I’ll never say it.
However, after the exchange, Carney states:

The meeting came amidst trade tensions between the two countries caused by Trump’s sudden 25% tariffs on many Canadian imports.
Trump said he and Carney will discuss tariffs in Canada and explore “subtle changes” in the US-Mexico-Canada agreement, the trade deal Trump reached in his first term. However, Trump has made it clear that he intends to maintain tariffs on Canada. “We’ve been torn apart by everyone for 50 years, 50 years, and we’re not going to do that anymore.”
“No,” Trump said when asked if there was anything Carney could say to raise tariffs in Canada. “That’s just right.”
Trump said he doesn’t like Carney’s “predecessor.” It refers to Trudeau.
Trump held a meeting with Carney saying, “It’s probably the biggest thing that’s happened to him.”
“But I don’t get full credibility,” Trump said. “His party lost a lot, so he won. So I would like to congratulate him with one of the biggest comebacks in my political history, perhaps one of the biggest comebacks that is more than mine.”
“He ran a really great campaign, he had a really great discussion,” Trump said.
Trump said the US will remain friends with Canada “nothing” and “we have great respect for Canadians.”
Carney thanked Trump for his hospitality and leadership. “You’re a transformative president,” Carney said, pointing out Trump’s “relentless focus on American workers and the economy.” He praised Trump for “securing your borders,” and ended the “scourge of fentanyl” and “securing the world.”
“The history of Canada and the US is getting stronger when we work together, and there are many opportunities to work together,” Carney said.
