Bowen Yang’s final exit from ‘Saturday Night Live’
SNL star Bowen Yang announced he would be leaving the show midway through the show’s 51st season, and the audience cheered in his name after the final show.
Following a series of shocking departures from Saturday Night Live, Marcello Hernandez is offering a reprieve for a while.
Season 51’s main cast members don’t seem to be going anywhere anytime soon.
“I’m there, I’m there, I’m there,” he told E! on the red carpet during a presentation at the Critics’ Choice Awards on Sunday, January 4th. “I’m having fun, brother. This is a crazy job and you get to meet a lot of crazy people. And I love it.”
This comment comes after Bowen Yang suddenly left the show midway through the season after appearing on the sketch show for six years on December 20th. Yang joined SNL in 2018 as a writer and then joined the cast in 2019.
“He’s a numbers guy,” Hernandez said of his former co-star. “He was consistent and always had big sketches. He has a unique voice and everyone loves him. There’s a reason for that. He’s a hard worker.”
The “Shrek 5” star added that Yang is “a guy to learn from.”
Bowen’s announcement comes after several other cast members, including Ego Nwodim, Heidi Gardner, Michael Longfellow, Emil Wakim and Devon Walker, confirmed their departure before the season began.
Hernandez, 28, first joined the cast in 2022 and became a main cast member ahead of the show’s 50th season in fall 2024. He quickly became a fan favorite for sketches such as the heartthrob Domingo, the lover of Chloe Fineman’s unfaithful bride Kelsey, and Grant, one half of Incredible Couples Together. His comedic portrayal of Don Francisco, the host of “Sabado Gigante,” has also received praise, including from himself.
