A man who provided alcohol to a 20-year-old, 20-year-old who was seriously injured in a Pittsburgh Pirates game on April 30 has been charged, according to Pennsylvania State Police.
Ethan Kirkwood, 21, from McKeesport, Pennsylvania, was charged with two counts of equipment with alcohol, born from an incident in which a minor man fell from an outfield wall at PNC Park,” the police report said.
CNN Sports has contacted Kirkwood and Pirates for further comment. Court documents show that Kirkwood is scheduled to appear at a preliminary hearing on June 23.
Kaban Markwood was in danger after the fall, with both the Pirates and Chicago Cubs suffering visible from the incident.
According to his girlfriend’s mother, Jennifer Phillips, Markwood, who played college football at Walsh and Wheeling, returned with his neck, collarbone and fall.
In a fundraiser established earlier this month, Phillips said Markwood “continues to recover with strength and resilience, preparing for the next phase of treatment.”
The fundraiser organized to support medical expenses raised more than $67,000 as of Wednesday.
Speaking to the Pittsburgh Tribune Review earlier this month, Markwood said he “really can’t sleep” and said he has “a lot of back pain” as he continues to recover from the fall.
