If LeBron James proves one thing except for his basketball greatness, that means he is also an elite showman.

James, the 40-year-old Los Angeles Lakers star, who is set to record his 23rd season in the NBA, teased the announcement on social media on Tuesday, October 7th at noon. James used the hashtag #TheseCondDecision and disregarded the infamous July 2010 televised special, and announced that he would be joining the Miami Heat in free agency. James also wrote that this would be a “decision of all decisions.”

In the accompanying video linked to a social media post, James is seen walking towards an empty chair before he gets to his seat. The setting is a basketball court, with a man sitting across from James. Sports Anchor Jim Gray mimics the setting of James’ first decision when he hosted the event.

James, 41 in December, faces speculation about the future of his play amid a possible retirement plan, and Tuesday’s announcement can address it.

During the availability of Lakers Media Day on Monday, September 29th, James avoided by providing an accurate timeline, but dealing with his future.

“I’m excited to see the opportunity to play another season of my favourite games,” James said. “But this year, the journey is laid out, and I am very invested because I don’t know when it will end.

However, James is also a brand ambassador for several companies, including Nike, Draft Kings and Pepsi. James is also affiliated with Amazon, appearing in a July commercial to promote the Prime Day event that month.

If Tuesday’s announcement is actually a marketing event, one possible link is to Amazon, which will launch another Prime Day sales event on Tuesday.

Despite his age, James remains one of the best players in the NBA. In his 70 appearances last season, he averaged 24.4 points, 8.2 assists, 7.8 rebounds and 1.0 steals per game.

He is the NBA’s all-time top scorer with 42,184 career points and holds many other NBA records.

James insists he wants to continue competing for the championship. The Lakers, who added star guard Luka Doncic in the February trade, finished third in the West last season, but bounced back in the first round of the NBA playoffs in five games against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
