Future NBA stories
The biggest NBA story to follow in the second half of the season.
The Golden State Warriors took action on Wednesday, February 4th to remain a contender in the Western Conference.
The Warriors added center Kristaps Porzisis in the final hours before the NBA trade deadline, reportedly reaching an agreement with the Atlanta Hawks. The Warriors sent Jonathan Kuminga and Buddy Hield to Atlanta in return.
For months, the Warriors were expected to trade Kuminga and were considered a candidate to acquire disgruntled Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo. The latter appears to have changed, with Golden State “moving on” from Antetokounmpo following the deal, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.
Here’s how we evaluate the Kristaps Porzingis contract.
Kristaps Porzingis trade grade
Golden State Warriors Grade: B
The Warriors are finally moving on from Kuminga. While Kuminga showed flashes of talent and potential, he never seemed to be on the same page as Golden State’s coaching staff.
Porzisis may be considered low risk, high return. If he stays healthy, he could be exactly the kind of center the Warriors need who can shoot the basketball. He also added some much-needed size near the rim.
Atlanta Hawks grade: B
Kuminga provides the Hawks with a high level of athleticism and physicality at the forward position. He also showed scoring ability and solid defensive ability during his time with the Warriors. Hield is one of the best long-range guns in the league and was a positive bonus in the trade. He will also add a bright and fun energy to the locker room.
