KPop Demon Hunters is set for an epic year of music and mayhem
‘KPop Demon Hunters’ has become a surprising phenomenon in 2025. What was the driving force behind this film’s success?
Netflix’s anime blockbuster “KPop Demon Hunters” continues to gain momentum.
After breaking records, topping the charts and winning two Golden Globe trophies, the film’s song “Golden” received an award at the 68th Grammy Awards’ early ceremony, where most of the 95 winners were named. “Golden,” which won the award for best song written for visual media, is also nominated for song of the year, but the results have not yet been announced.
After its release last June, “KPop Demon Hunters” quickly took on a life of its own, gaining a devoted fanbase and becoming the most-watched movie in Netflix history. Fans couldn’t get enough of the soundtrack either, and “Golden” quickly entered Spotify’s 1 billion streams club.
The dance track ranked 7th on Spotify’s most streamed tracks in the world in 2025. Variety reported that a sequel is in the works at Netflix and Sony, scheduled for release in 2029.
EJAE, one of the voices behind Hunter/X, told reporters backstage at the 2026 Golden Globe Awards on January 11 that this is not an overnight success story.
“When I was a kid, for a long time, I was working for 10 years and writing for another 10 years, so it was just a long period of time. But I always felt like for a long time, my efforts were not paying off,” the singer-songwriter said.
