Klay Thompson didn’t hide his thoughts about Memphis Grizzlies guard Jay Morant after the heated postgame confrontation between the NBA stars.
“As for Jay, he’s a funny guy. He always has a lot to say, especially for a guy who takes so little responsibility. But guess what? That’s for another time,” Thompson said.
Morant, who did not play in the Grizzlies’ 102-96 win over the Dallas Mavericks, put his finger in Thompson’s face after the final whistle. Thompson clapped Morant’s hand and the two had to be separated while exchanging words.
When Morant asked what he said, Thompson replied, “Nothing intellectually deep.”
“He’s just mouthing. He’s been blurting for a long time, but it’s weird to blurt out when he’s on the bench,” Thompson said. “This is kind of the story of his career so far, and we just want to know more. You know, we all want to see him go out there and do his best, but he just has a lot of other things getting in the way of that. You need that in the NBA, you need the best players to be out there.
“Being a star comes with great responsibility. I don’t want to see that go to waste.”
Tension between Thompson and the Grizzlies began when Memphis forward Santi Aldama appeared to intentionally trip top pick Cooper Flagg while Aldama was on the ground. Thompson confronted Aldama about his actions.
That bad feeling seems to have spilled over into the conflict between Morant and Thompson, who is currently out with an injury. Morant also appeared to criticize Thompson while interrupting teammate Cam Spencer’s postgame interview.
