Charles III has reached a milestone in his recovery from cancer.

The 77-year-old British monarch revealed in a personal video message broadcast on Friday, December 12, as part of ‘Stand Up to Cancer 2025’, that she could reduce her cancer treatment next year.

The campaign, a collaboration between Cancer Research UK and the country’s Channel 4, was launched earlier this month to raise awareness of the importance of early diagnosis and raise money for research into the disease.

“Thanks to early diagnosis, effective intervention, and compliance with doctors’ orders, I can share the good news that my own cancer treatment schedule will be shortened in the new year,” Charles said. “This milestone is both a personal celebration and a testament to the remarkable advances in cancer treatment in recent years.”

The message was pre-recorded in November from the morning room of Prince Charles and Queen Camilla’s official residence, Clarence House.

Buckingham Palace said in a statement on Friday that Prince Charles was “responsing extremely well to treatment,” adding that doctors were advising that treatment be reduced to a “preventive phase.”

The Palace said: “This position will be continuously monitored and reviewed to protect and prioritize his continued recovery.” “As the King said, this milestone in his recovery journey is a ‘great personal blessing.'”

Prince Charles has been gradually returning to royal duties this year after undergoing treatment for an unspecified type of cancer that was detected during tests following surgery to correct an enlarged prostate. He experienced side effects during treatment and was hospitalized earlier this year.

Despite being candid about his experience with cancer, the king will not discuss publicly the type of cancer he is battling.

Buckingham Palace said in a statement on Friday: “The advice from cancer experts is that Her Majesty, in his determination to support the cancer community as a whole, would prefer that Her Majesty speak to people suffering from all forms of the disease, rather than refer to her own specific symptoms.”

Prince Charles’ battle with cancer coincided with that of his daughter-in-law, Princess Kate, who announced a month after the monarch that she was undergoing preventative cancer treatment.

In a video released by the palace at the time, Duchess Kate said her diagnosis was a “huge shock” for her family, adding that she and Prince William “did everything we could to manage and manage this privately for the benefit of our young family.”

In January, Kate announced she was in remission.

“As anyone who has ever been diagnosed with cancer knows, adjusting to a new normal takes time,” she wrote in a social media post at the time. “But we’re looking forward to a productive year ahead. There’s a lot to look forward to and we appreciate everyone’s continued support.”
