OTTAWA, Canada – King Charles spoke during a symbolic visit to show support for Canada, showing that it faced the threat of our annexation, expressing his love for Canada on Tuesday, saying the country remains “strong and free.”

Charles, the head of state of Canada, is the first British monarch in nearly 70 years to preside over the opening of the Canadian Parliament.

In his speech, Charles mentioned “the country that Canadians and I love so much,” but he didn’t directly mention President Donald Trump, who has imposed tariffs on Canadian exports and has a muse about turning Canada into a 51st state.

“The true North is certainly strong and free,” Charles said, referring to the Canadian national anthem.

The speech outlined the government’s plans for the next session was written primarily by officials working for Prime Minister Mark Carney. However, Charles was responsible for his comments about his love for Canada.

“Every time I come to Canada… a little more of Canada has penetrated my bloodstream and from there it is straight into my heart,” the monarch said, accompanied by his wife, Queen Camilla.

Before his speech, Charles laughed, joking with Kearney, and wore the Order of Canada around his neck.

He and Camilla were relegated to the Senate with horse-drawn carriages, with 28 riders escorting them from the royal Canadian police and cheering on the flag-waving spectators. Charles then inspected the Honorary Guard. Everything is covered in bright red uniforms.

An Ipsos Reid poll released Tuesday for Global News found that 66% of respondents consider the relationship between Canada and the monarchy useful. This is because it helped set it apart from the US from 54% in April 2023.

In the speech, the government reiterated its belief that Canada should agree to a new ties with the US and seek a more reliable trading partner.

The warm welcome to the royal couple was in stark contrast to when he visited Australia last October when an Indigenous senator hecked Charles at his parliamentary home and denounced him as “genocide.”
