Democrats have not pretended to be erosion of free speech over the past decade.
How does the FCC affect freedom of speech? This is what we know now.
Some say the FCC and President Donald Trump have been trying to curb freedom of speech since the assassination of Charlie Kirk. This is what we know now.
Free speech debate has returned to the national spotlight as Republicans and Democrats exchange shaming in the wake of the Charlie Kirk’s assassination. It seems everyone is missing that there was a reversed role in American speech.
Democrats have posted to all caps that they “protect freedom of speech” and “legalize comedy.” Meanwhile, Attorney General Pam Bondy is threatening to “take after you if you’re targeting people with hate speech,” as if he’s a progressive blogger for 2020.
As Democrats pretend that the erosion of free speech in the last decade never happened, the irony is lost to everyone directly involved, and Republicans apparently forget that they care absolutely nothing about the issue. In reality, this confusion only reveals the hackers involved.
That’s obvious when you look at the story of Jimmy Kimmel. The Trump administration used the Federal Communications Commission to put pressure on the ABC to air Kimmel. As a result, it remains to be seen whether the administration will take further action against the ABC.
Neither the GOP nor the Democrats are “free speeches.”
The Kirk vs. Kimmel debate comes after Republicans spent years stepping into the Biden administration, trampling on free speech during the Covid-19 pandemic, criticizing universities that criticize free speech, and swearing to resist efforts to ban hate speech.
However, Bondi responded to the office depot location that refuses to print such content for the Kirk Memorial if you want to print a poster with Charlie’s photos, if you want to print the poster for vigilance. “We can indict you.”
This stance is completely opposed to the mainstream conservative positions that have existed for years. The Supreme Court precedent believes that businesses cannot discriminate based on any kind of characteristics, but can refuse to create specific content for creative work.
But the Democrats have also turned the issue of freedom of speech over the issue of free speech. They have correctly called out the Attorney General with her anti-constitutional stance on the issue of freedom of speech, but they have forgotten that in the last five years they have fought two Supreme Court cases that deal with precisely fundamental issues here.
Case masterpiece Cakeshopv. ColoradoCivil Rights Commission and 303 Creativev. When it became Elenis, Democrats fought in favor of the Public Accommodation Act, which trampled on the Free Speech Rights of Businesses, for cake bakers and web designers, respectively. In both cases, the company refused to create custom creative work for same-sex weddings.
Democrats argue that these scenarios are somehow different, but the reality is that all of these examples are the same as the Trump administration is urging them to produce vigils posters for conservative activists. A forced speech is a forced speech regardless of what the cause is or which political party serves.
When it comes to so-called hate speech, the Democratic Party’s records are not good. “There is no guarantee for false information or hate speech, particularly about our democracy,” said Tim Waltz, a candidate for the Democratic vice president.
This is more than just theoretical. It actually happened under the Biden administration. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said Facebook was under pressure from the White House during Covid-19 to censor “contains humor and satire.” Again, Democrats will pretend that this is different because of motivation, but the Constitution does not come with the “public health” asterisk.
Has everyone forgotten in the past few years?
For years, conservatives warned that Democrats armed the government and free speech backfired against Democrats, and that they clearly have it. Bondi’s comments are completely unacceptable, but they were completely predictable under the trajectory of freedom of speech occurring in our political situation.
But both Republicans and Democrats lost their conspiracy as the scale of their power leaned in other directions. Democrats didn’t listen to the warnings given to them, but now conservatives refuse to keep an eye on their past words.
As one of the few remaining people who really care about freedom of speech rather than partisanship, it’s extremely frustrating to me to see people pretend to care about this issue. Most of our partisan leaders really do.
The number of comments from the Attorney General and the publicly opposed Republicans was somewhat comforting, but the rest of Trump and his Loyalist administration seemingly have no roots in the criticism. Their words mean very little to me until Congress shows spinal measures as he stands up against this administration.
The Trump administration appears eager to expand on how it can proceed after a speech the government hates. Democrats pretend to be applause after doing the same thing when they were in power. No one has a standing leg, and people pretend they actually care about the American Constitution.
