Kash Patel has been on the radar as a hockey fan before, but remember when he went to watch Alex Ovechkin make history as the all-time leading NHL goal scorer?

This time, he was spotted cheering on Team USA, which won its first gold medal since 1980 with an OT win over Canada. Additionally, on Sunday, February 22nd, a video circulated online showing the FBI director partying with his team in the locker room, drinking and getting excited about the win.

There’s been a lot of backlash against all of this, between what’s going on back home and the question of who’s paying for Patel’s trip to Italy. Patel then responded on X (formerly Twitter):

“To the very concerned media: Yes, I love America, and I was extremely humbled when my newly minted friends from Team USA invited me into their locker room to celebrate this historic moment with the boys in the greatest country on earth and the greatest sport on earth.”
