Harris criticizes Trump in his first major speech since leaving office
Former Vice President Kamala Harris said in her first major speech since she left office that she has witnessed the “abandonment” of American ideals.
Kamala Harris’ former vice president praised Joe Biden as a “fighter” and wanted him to “complete and quick recovery” after the former president was diagnosed with prostate cancer.
“Doug and I are saddened to learn of President Biden’s diagnosis of prostate cancer,” Harris said in a statement on behalf of herself and her husband. “We keep him, Dr. Biden, and his whole family in hearts and prayers. Joe is a fighter, and we know he will face this challenge with the same strength, resilience and optimism that has always defined his life and leadership.
Harris faced Biden in the 2020 Democratic presidential primary and served as his vice president between 2021 and 2025. She took over the president’s Democratic nomination when Biden dropped out after a debate performance that raised questions about his age and mental vision.
A Biden spokesman announced on May 18 that the former president had a “aggressive form” of prostate cancer that spread across the bones.
“The president and his family are reviewing treatment options with his doctor,” the statement added.
