Joe Biden says BBC Donald Trump is soothing Russia
In an interview with BBC’s Nick Robinson, President Joe Biden suggests that President Donald Trump is soothing Russia.
WASHINGTON – Former President Joe Biden refused to acknowledge George Clooney during a Los Angeles fundraiser hosted by the actor for the president during the 2024 presidential election.
The moment shaking “at his core” and “at his core” in “Original Sin” by CNN’s Jake Tapper and Axios’s Alex Thompson, “at his core” occurred at a backstage reception as another co-host of the fundraiser, Julia Roberts, was posing for a photo with participants on June 15th.
When Biden entered the room, he “appeared to have diminished so badly, as if Clooney had aged ten years ago after last seen him in December 2022,” the president took a small step, guiding his arm and excerpts from a book published by The New Yorker.
“You know George,” the Biden-led assistant told the president, trying to remember that he was in front of him, one of the world’s most famous actors and host of lucrative events that Biden was in attendance.
“Yeah, yeah,” Biden said. “Thank you for being here.”
Hollywood’s fundraiser, which raised over $30 million, was a pivotal moment ahead of Biden’s decision to withdraw from the election a month later. Biden’s condition in the fundraiser was a sign that 12 days later, when the president completed detectives during a tragic discussion about Donald Trump and struggled to convey consistent thoughts.
“George Clooney,” The aide was made clear to Biden during the fundraiser.
“Yeah!” Biden said. “Hello, George!”
The campaign’s fundraiser took place during a particularly busy stretch for Biden. The president flew to the event from Italy. There, I was there for two days for a group at Seven Nations Summit. He had just returned to Europe after being there a few days ago in honor of French Allied Veterans on the 80th anniversary of D-Day. During his travels in Europe, Biden had returned to the US to stay at his home in Wilmington, Delaware, for the ruling in the gun lawsuit of his son Hunter Biden.
The book describes the crowd surprised at the fundraiser. It explains Biden, former President Barack Obama and talk show host Jimmy Kimmel on stage, on the obvious decline, frail presentations and meandering answers to mostly softball questions from Kimmel.
At the end of a 30-minute discussion between the three men, Biden gave the crowd a blank stare and began to leave the stage. Obama turned around and grabbed Biden’s arm and led him behind the scenes.
Among those who were surprised at the fundraiser were New Hampshire Democrat Annie Custer and California Rep. Julia Brownlee.
“They saw him on the photo line and Kuster could say that it was a struggle that the president was involved. Oh, what will happen next?“The book says.
Less than a month into the fundraiser, Clooney (a formerly avid Biden supporter) shocked the political world by asking Biden to drop out of the race at the New York Times Opeda, saying, “The battle he can’t win is a battle against time. No one can.”
Clooney initially jet lags as he choked up Biden, who he witnessed in Los Angeles, and traveled back and forth through the president’s Atlantic, but “then confirmed all the horrors that he pushed aside,” according to the book.
After Biden delving into his debate performance and refusing to step aside, Clooney told Obama he was considering asking Biden to drop out. President Obama told the actor he would only go deeper into Biden, the book says.
Clooney ultimately decided to write Opade for The New York Times, and before its release, he sent copies to film producer Jeffrey Katzenberg, and aide Steve Richetti, of senior Biden’s main fundraiser.
Ahead of the May 20 release of “Original Sin” and other books on his presidency, Biden has been sitting for several interviews in an obvious attempt to rehabilitate his public image.
“They’re wrong. There’s nothing to keep it,” Biden told ABC’s views when asked about a book that questioned his cognitive abilities. Biden said he believes he would have beaten Trump if he hadn’t dropped out of the race.
A Biden spokesman told USA Today in a statement: “We have not reviewed the book. The authors did not fact-check the book, despite it being a common practice to do so.
“We are waiting for something that shows Joe Biden had to make the president’s decision, or where national security was threatened, or where he couldn’t do his job. In fact, the evidence points to the opposite – he was a very effective president.”
