Craft retailer Michael’s, which purchased JoAnn’s intellectual property in June, recently announced the debut of a knit and sew shop featuring private label brands with bankruptcy retailer JoAnn Branding. Michaels is also debuting a party shop featuring an expanded selection of balloons, party supplies and more.

Joanne Brands available at Michaels Knit & Sewing Store
Now in Michaels stores across North America, the Knit & Sew Shop featuring Joanne and the Michaels logo brings you the best of both worlds.
The dual-brand shop has a curated selection of threads, sewing concepts, and threads, and most stores also have fabrics. The selection includes Joann Brands like The Big Twist, which hits shelves at the end of October. Other additions include:
- fabric: Michaels currently carries fabrics in over 840 stores and has plans to expand to over 250 additional locations. Michaels is also increasing the existing space dedicated to fabrics in its stores by nearly 25%, expanding its expanded assortment in most locations and offering more than 95,000 options available online, including licensed prints.
- sewing and thread: Michaels is increasing its in-store space for sewing and thread selections, and is aggressively expanding its thread selection by 25% this year to meet customer demand. Hundreds of new skins have been added, including new brands and Joan Private Label favorites. Michaels also welcomes new sewing machines, sewing concepts, beginner needlecraft kits and more from Singer and Brothers.
Knit & Sew Shop also has new in-store services, including a fabric cutting table available in more than 650 stores by mid-October.

Michael’s Party Shop has custom balloon bundles and grab-and-go options for a wide range of party supplies. In addition to 79,000 balloons and party items available online,
Michaels has expanded party space in all stores to accommodate 700 new products, including DIY balloon arch kits, tableware, themed paper products and accessories. Each store also has its own balloon bar, offering an assortment of latex and foil balloons as well as customizable balloons.
Joanne closes all stores after filing for bankruptcy twice in one year
Joan closed all of its locations after filing for bankruptcy in January 2025. This was the company’s second bankruptcy within 12 months. Previously, Joann Inc. filed for bankruptcy in March 2024.
