ABC announces Jimmy Kimmel Return in Call of Free Speech
Both citizens and comedians are calling for free speech as Jimmy Kimmel is set to return to ABC after he is suspended.
Jimmy Kimmel is ending the silence on social media.
As the late-night host prepares to return to the air on Tuesday night, he posted on Instagram for the first time on September 23rd since his show was suspended after a controversial commentary about the murder of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk.
Kimmel shared a photo of herself with legendary TV writer and producer Norman Lear, with the caption, “I’m not here today.”
Leah passed away in 2023 at the age of 101. The creators of classic sitcoms like “All in the Family” and “The Jeffersons” were open about his liberal political beliefs in his life.
In 1981, Leah founded people of progressive advocacy organizations for the American way to counter the agenda of divisive rhetoric and authoritarianism spread by the leaders of the new religious rights political movement.
In her 2016 speech at the International Documentary Association Awards, Leah emphasized the importance of the First Amendment. President Donald Trump “doesn’t seem to understand the constitution and don’t think it’s much less,” Leah added that Trump “in some way threatens free speech,” according to a Hollywood reporter.
Before Kimmel’s post about Leah, his Instagram has been inactive since September 15th, but he said on the show that “Magagang” is “deeply trying to characterise Tyler Robinson.” After facing pressure from the FCC, ABC stopped Kimmel’s show on September 17th.
The suspension has been widely criticized throughout the entertainment industry, with many arguing it as an example of government censorship and a move against First Amendment rights that Leah had been very vocal about.
Jimmy Kimmel and Norman Lear cooperated in the “Live” special
Kimmel also worked with Leah to create “Live in front of the Studio Audience,” a series of ABC specials that recreate classic episodes of television from shows such as Leah’s “Jefferson” and “All Family.”
After Leah passed away in 2023, Kimmel conveyed an emotional tribute that he remembered as “an incredible person.”
Jimmy Kimmel Shaw will return on Tuesday after halt
Kimmel’s post comes when he first spoke since ABC chose to pause his show “indefinitely”, but he has not yet commented on the network’s decision.
Before the ABC move, Federal Communications Commission Chairman Brendan Kerr said on Benny Johnson’s show that “it can be done in an easy or difficult way. These companies can find ways to change their behavior and take action in Kimmel.
Kerr later denied that Kimmel’s suspension was the result of government interference.
“Jimmy Kimmel is in a situation where he is there because of his assessment, not what happened at the federal level,” Kerr told a New York forum on September 22.
Kimmel is scheduled to return on September 23rd with the first episode of “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” Since the suspension. Disney decided to bring Kimmel back into the air after a “thoughtful conversation with Jimmy,” but said it had “decided to suspend production at the show,” but decided to broadcast Kimmel.
Many fans have submitted support ahead of the show’s revival, seeking comments on Kimmel’s Instagram post.
“Kill it tonight – feel all the love,” wrote comedian Rosie O’Donnell.
