Jeffrey Epstein Probe DOJ: GOP Chair to start flipping files

Date:

The DOJ move comes about a month after the House Oversight Committee voted to approve the subpoena in a rare, bipartisan effort.

WASHINGTON – In four days, the Justice Department will begin sending some of the so-called “Epstein files” to disgraced investors from sexual personnel investigations to the House Oversight Committee, committee chair James Kommer said on August 18.

“There are many records under DOJ’s custody. It will take the department to make all records and ensure the identification of victim and child sexual abuse materials,” Comer said in a statement posted to X, with the first file expected to arrive on August 22.

The Department of Justice could not immediately comment on which records to take over.

On August 5, Comer issued a subpoena to the Department of Justice for records relating to Epstein, a longtime Trump friend who committed suicide in 2019, awaiting trial on federal sex trafficking charges.

Republicans on the House Committee issued deposition subpoenas to former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, as well as former Chief Federal Law Enforcement Officers such as James Comey, Loretta Lynch, Eric Holder, Merrick Garland, Robert Mueller, William Burr, Jeff Sessions and Albarth Gonzalez. They are scheduled to start this month.

Those subpoenas are seeking testimony “in relation to the horrifying crime committed by Jeffrey Epstein,” Kentucky Republican Comer said when they were issued.

The oversight committee voted on July 23, issued subpoena, searched for DOJ files, and answered calls from lawmakers and voters who could have been involved in his minor sex trafficking ring.

Trump supporters and Magazine influencers say they want to see the names of prominent Democrats who are rumored to be on files, at least in flight logs from Epstein’s private jets, according to known court records and other documents, but they could probably be themselves.

DOJ follows weeks of intensifying drama and rare conflict between President Donald Trump, who had a long friendship with Epstein, and his Magazine base.

Last month, the DOJ and the FBI issued a joint statement that PAM Bondi and FBI director Kash Patel do not own Epstein’s investigative documents after several months of commitment to release the information.

The subpoena appears to cover when Epstein is allegedly sexually assaulting a young woman with the help of associate Githraine Maxwell, who dates back more than 20 years ago.

Maxwell was interviewed over two days last month about what he knew about the case by former Trump personal attorney, Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche.

The interview took place in Tallahassee, Florida. There, a former British socialite is sentenced to 20 years in prison to support a teenage girl who was sexually abused by Epstein. She has since been moved to Texas’ bare minimum federal prison “camp,” spurring criticism from Democrats accusing the Trump administration of giving her priority treatment.

It is unclear what Maxwell said to Blanche in the closed door interview, but her defense attorney, David Marx, said his client answered all the government questions, including questions from around 100 people.

On July 23, a federal judge in Florida rejected a bid from the Department of Justice to seal testimony from 2005 and 2007 on the Great Ju Court.

Maxwell is trying to overturn her conviction and has filed a petition with the Supreme Court, which the Justice Department opposed. Marx said he believes Gislain deserves relief and appealed to Trump online for consideration, but that no such offer was made.

“When asked if I was going to consider a pardon for Maxwell, Trump told reporters, “That’s something I wasn’t thinking about.”
