The US stock market will close on Friday, July 4th, on Independence Day.

The NASDAQ and the New York Stock Exchange will close early on Thursday, July 3rd at 1pm and will close on Friday. The US bond market also closed early at 2pm on July 3rd and remains closed on July 4th, according to the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association.

According to the Library of Congress, the origins of July 4th date back to when Philadelphians marked the first anniversary of American independence with a “voluntary celebration” with a “voluntary celebration.”

However, annual observations of public holidays began to occur regularly after the war in 1812. Events such as the Erie Canal and groundbreaking rituals of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad were scheduled to coincide with the July 4th festival. Congress passed a law on June 28, 1870, which marked Independence Day as a federal public holiday.

After closing on July 4th, it will be business as usual on Wall Street until early September. The next scheduled stock market closure is Monday, September 1st, with Labor Day compliance.
