Monday, October 13th will be a regular business day for the U.S. stock market, as markets will not be closed for Columbus Day or Indigenous Peoples Day. Meanwhile, the U.S. bond market will be closed, according to the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association.

Columbus Day, celebrated on the second Monday in October, has been a federal holiday since 1892, with parades across the country highlighting Italian American heritage and pride, according to Smithsonian Magazine.

Following years of criticism of Christopher Columbus’ treatment of Native Americans, former President Joe Biden issued his first presidential proclamation on Indigenous Peoples Day 2021, the same day as Columbus Day. Although it is not recognized as a federal holiday, it is recognized as a holiday in some cities and states.

After closing for Labor Day on September 1st, the next scheduled stock market closure is Thursday, November 27th for Thanksgiving, meaning Wall Street will be open for business as usual until late November.

US stock market holiday schedule for 2025

The market will be closed on the following holidays:

  • Thanksgiving: Thursday, November 27th
  • Christmas: Thursday, December 25th
