Is Mazda’s $120 annual phone app worth it? I understand

As smartphones are already an integral part of our daily lives, automakers are developing their own mobile apps to help their customers stay connected to their vehicles. This is not a new concept, but it adds a layer of convenience that buyers may find attractive. Mazda introduced the Mymazda mobile app in 2020 for some vehicles equipped with Mazda Connected Services, offering it free of charge during the trial period. That period lasts for one year with all models and new models 2025 – 2025 CX-70This is three years, three years for vehicles from 2019 to 2024. Once the trial is over, access to the app costs $10 per month.

I’m using the app Our 1 Year Review 2025 Mazda CX-70 Over the past six months, nothing groundbreaking or completely new, but I like it being ready to use.

What you can do with the app

Create an account and link your vehicle to the app and you can access information such as the vehicle’s location and current status. You can also use the app to turn headlights and hazard lights on or off. One particularly useful feature is the ability to remotely start or stop an engine that the key FOB itself does not provide. After remotely launching the CX-70 via the app, the engine shuts off as soon as the door is opened, and you will need to manually restart the vehicle before driving. It’s not the most seamless experience, but it certainly is better than not starting a remote start at all. This feature is not available in key FOBs, so the additional steps involved in using the app are small trade-offs and the process is simple.

These features are not groundbreaking, but access to them is a relief. For example, in one example, I forgot to lock my car before diving into an Uber. Push notifications from the app warned you that the door was unlocked. After just a few taps, I remotely locked my CX-70.

The app also turns your vehicle into a mobile locker. If you need to drop something or pick something while friends or family are away, you can simply leave the item in your car and unlock it remotely once it arrives. The CX-70 typically receives app commands in about 15 seconds, making the entire process quick and hassle-free.

Mazda’s mobile app also provides useful vehicle information, including current fuel levels, tire pressure, and odometer readings. If something goes wrong, you’ll receive a push notification, but not all alerts are perfect. In our case, we received multiple warnings about headlight system malfunction, despite the headlight functioning properly. This app also allows you to schedule appointments for your service and send reminders during maintenance.

What you want to include the app

Some automakers like Hyundai are taking it a step further Provide digital keys on selected modelsAllows the owner to leave the physical key to the home. These digital keys use near field communication (NFC) on your mobile phone or smartwatch to lock, unlock and activate the car. Even if the device runs out of battery, the system will still work. However, Mazda doesn’t offer this technology on any vehicle, so even if you have the app installed, you will still have to carry a physical key to drive.

I also want an app that is integrated with Siri for Voice commands. Imagine you can say “Hey Siri, start my car” without opening the app. Unfortunately, that feature is not supported. Voice control streamlines the process – you can start the car while you’re grabbing things before you go out or from the grocery store checkout line.

Conclusion

While this app is far from the best in business, it’s better than having no connectivity at all. The convenience features are solid and overall, the app finishes work. I hope it includes shortcuts and voice commands and digital key options for faster access. This allows you to leave your physical keys at home.

The CX-70 will leave the long-term fleet before the three-year court period ends, but we do not recommend paying $10 a month to the Mazda Connectivity Service. It will not prevent you from using the Mazda app completely during your free trial.
