Many departments at local, state and federal levels will close their offices on Thursday, June 19th in compliance with holidays.

June, known as America’s second Independence Day, has been commemorated as a federally recognized holiday since 2021, offering millions of Americans the opportunity to commemorate the end of slavery.

Holiday celebrated the date Major General Gordon Granger’s arrival in Galveston Bay, Texas in 1865, declaring that blacks, who had been enslaved by 2,000 Union forces, were free.

June 19th is always celebrated on June 19th. This year, the date will fall on Thursday.

Will the government office be closed in June?

According to the U.S. Personnel Management Office, Thursday, June 19th will be designated as a federal public holiday, with no-essential government agencies closing on the day.

Many public agencies at the local and state level follow suit, but it’s best to check with your local government about closures in your area.

According to OPM, this is the remaining federal public holiday calendar for 2025.

Is the post office open in June? Will the email be sent?

According to the US Postal Service website, all post offices will be closed for retail transactions and will not be delivered on regular residential or business postal services on Thursday, June 19th.

Priority Mail Express is available 365 days a year, including federal holidays.
