Are banks and post offices open on Election Day?
Interested in voting or running errands? Here’s what’s open on Election Day.
Election Day 2025 is here. It’s not included in the midterm elections or presidential polls, but that doesn’t mean it’s not interesting.
Voters in New York City, New Jersey, Virginia and California are scheduled to vote on one mayor, two governors and redistricting measures on Tuesday, November 4, in an early test of Democratic and Republican strategies for next year’s midterm congressional elections.
Here’s what you need to know before Election Day, including whether Election Day is a federal holiday and how many days are left in 2025.
What is a federal holiday?
Federal holidays, also called holidays, are designated by Congress and recognized by the federal government.
This is essentially scheduled (and paid) leave for non-essential employees of the U.S. federal government. Federal employees are typically given 11 holidays per calendar year, with an additional day on the inauguration day of a new president.
Election Day is not a federal holiday, so U.S. banks, financial markets, major grocery chains, and retail stores will be open.
