Labor Day protests begin in DC with national rallies planned
A gathering of thousands of people in Washington, D.C. protests union destruction and inequality ahead of Labor Day weekend.
Labor Day is Monday, September 1st, with many national retailers, grocery stores and restaurant chains still open. However, like the stock market, banks and post offices will be closed.
The first Labor Day was celebrated in New York City on Tuesday, September 5, 1882, and by 1894 23 states had adopted leave. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, President Glover Cleveland signed a law that makes national public holidays a national holiday on September 28th each year, the first Monday of September.
Here’s what you need to know about retail and grocery chains and whether or not to open on Labor Day.
Is Costco open for Labor Day?
