nicole farato Here’s the news you need to know Thursday, including the latest on the Iran war and Trump’s lack of support in the Texas Republican primary. Additionally, women’s college basketball is heating up.

Iran wants ‘blood’, experts say

Experts told USA TODAY that Iranian leaders decided they needed to inflict severe political and economic pain on the United States and Israel before agreeing to a cease-fire, despite the large imbalance in military power.

Meanwhile, the Senate on March 4 failed to advance the War Powers Resolution to halt military hostilities against Iran and end US involvement in the escalating regional war. As civilian and U.S. military casualties mount, other countries are drawn into the crisis, and religion is a major factor fueling the broader threat. And the war is bad public opinion for Republicans, as Americans back home are worried about rising gas prices and travel concerns.

More news you need to know right now

  • Who is President Trump supporting in Texas? It’s not clear yet. Remarkably, President Donald Trump has yet to endorse a candidate in the Texas Republican primary for U.S. Senate, which is currently leading up to a close (and expensive) runoff election in May.
  • Texas ICE Detention Center is in isolation. Sources told The El Paso Times, part of the USA TODAY Network, that a large immigration detention center in West Texas has been isolated due to a measles outbreak and is closed to visitors and lawyers.
  • The state could lose dozens of pharmacies. CVS announced it would close all 134 of its pharmacies in Tennessee if the state enacts legislation that targets the pharmacy giant’s business model.
