Michelle Obama says he’s “very happy” he didn’t have a boy with former President Barack Obama.
On an episode of the “IMO” podcast on Wednesday, June 18th, she told her brother and co-host Craig Robinson and radio icon Angie Martinez about the challenges of raising a boy, “I’m very happy we didn’t have boys.” Obama shares two daughters. 26-year-old film director Maria Anne and University of Southern California alumni Sasha Obama have recently turned 24.
Martinez suggested that Obama and her husband of the author of The Promised Land “should have thrown the boy into the mix.” But Obama jokingly veiled the strong character of the former president, “He would have been Barack Obama!”, suggesting that his son was challenging.
When Martinez said “Baby Barack” was “surprising,” “The author of the upcoming “look” explained to the host of the “IRL” podcast that he would have “feeled for him.”
Robinson, father of one daughter, Leslie and three sons Avery, Austin and Aaron, joined the conversation by stopping his sister from “borrowing our boy.”
Michelle Obama previously broke his silence over a change in her daughter’s name
Earlier this month, Obama made the headlines when her eldest son, Maria Anne, broke her silence with her decision to drop her last name.
Maria Anne, who pursues a film career in Hollywood, premiered at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival, using her middle name as the artistic name for the credits for her 2023 short film The Heart, which she wrote and directed in 2023.
“Our daughters (Maria and Sasha) are 25 and 23. They are young adult women, but they definitely went through a time when it was push-away.
The author Naru said, “It’s very important that my kids feel like they’re making what they’re getting in the world, and I don’t want them to think that they’re not working hard, they just handing things around naturally. They’re very sensitive to that, and they want to be their own people.”
