IKEA wants the best for Monkey Punch.

Scandinavian furniture store IKEA donated stuffed animals to Japan’s Ichikawa City Zoo earlier this week. The facility’s baby monkey, Punch, who is currently a hot topic of conversation, was moved by his love for IKEA’s stuffed orangutan, believed to be Jungelskog, so the facility donated the stuffed animal. Punch, who was abandoned by his mother at birth, carries the stuffed animal around with him, and it gives him a sense of security.

On February 17, Ichikawa City Mayor Kou Tanaka posted a photo to X of IKEA Japan President Petra Ferre with numerous IKEA stuffed animals such as Punch and other animals from the zoo.

New punch video leaves fans heartbroken

Punch’s recent video has caused some distress among animal lovers. In a video posted on February 19, Punch is seen being approached by a large adult monkey and being dragged across the ground in circles before running for cover and using a stuffed animal to take shelter. In a statement shared to She was annoyed by the punch and that may have upset her.

But the zoo told Punch fans not to worry.

“Punch shows resilience and mental strength despite being scolded,” the zoo said in a statement. “When you observe this disciplinary behavior towards Punch from other members of the zoo as he attempts to communicate with them, we ask that you support Punch’s efforts rather than feel sorry for him.”

Who is Monkey Punch?

Punch was born at the Ichikawa City Zoo on July 26, 2025, and was abandoned by his mother “soon after birth,” according to a translation on the zoo’s website. Zoo staff fostered the monkey and gave him a stuffed orangutan to help him cope with his loneliness.

How to purchase the popular orangutan stuffed animal

IKEA’s Djungelskog appears to be the same stuffed orangutan that Punch loved, and is available for $20 at IKEA stores and on the IKEA website.
