Federal authorities say President Donald Trump sent troops to the city.

Arrested amid protests outside the Icefield office in South Portland, opposing Trump’s massive deportation of undocumented immigrants. Mostly peaceful, but in some cases protests include conflicts with law enforcement and the use of tear gas.

The Justice Department said on October 2 that a Portland woman first appeared in court on felony assault on a federal officer, making her 28th arrest at the Ice Office since June 13th. Katherine Megan Vogel, 39, attacked a locked officer at a workplace trapped in a closed mission, accused of applying red paint to the driveway of an ice facility. release.

“Violence and property damage in ice buildings and other federal buildings are unacceptable,” said a US attorney for the Scott E. Bradford area of the Oregon area. “If you assault a federal law enforcement officer or damage federal property, the federal government will be arrested and charged.”

Vogel was released until further court cases were pending, the DOJ said. The federal defense attorney listed as representing Vogel in court records did not immediately respond to a request for comment from USA Today on Oct. 3.

As the federal government cracks down on several U.S. cities, Portland’s state and local leaders have accused Trump of exaggerating the amount of anxiety and violence, saying their cities should not appear on the list.

“There are no riots, no threat to national security, and no military needs in our major cities,” said Democrat Gov. Tina Kotek. “We need or want Oregon’s federal forces, fear, create conflict and, frankly, escalate situations under control.”

Other arrests made at the Portland Ice Facility include someone allegedly charged with assault by bringing the lasers into the eyes of ice officers. Someone picked up a smoked hand-ren bullet from the ground and threw it to the officers and accused him of hitting it. And the woman said she was the one who was said to have grabbed the ex-s in the US with her hair.

“We’re going out there and doing quite a few for the people in Portland,” Trump said. He described them as “professional agitators and anarchists.”
