Hurricane Erin, Immigration, Schools, Little League, Aubrey Plaza in Texas: Daily Briefing

Date:

good morning!🙋🏼‍♀️I’m Nicole Forelt. He might have vowed to be Justin Bieber.

Take a quick look at Wednesday’s news:

  • Democrat Nicole Collier slept at the Texas Capitol.
  • Hurricane Erin caused rough waves and dangerous rifts.
  • The deportation of NYC elementary school students will confirm concerns ahead of the new academic year.

Hurricane Erin closes beach due to inflation and rifts

The heart of Erin is expected to travel over the western Atlantic Ocean between the US East Coast and Bermuda on Wednesday and Thursday. Erin’s predicted storm surge and more than 10 feet of waves have advised people along the East Coast to stay away from the sea to avoid the fatal surfing conditions expected until at least Thursday. Tropical storm conditions were expected to arrive either Wednesday evening or by night, according to the National Hurricane Centre. Lifeguards are rescued dozens of people from the oceans that Erin has stirred up along the beaches on the East Coast, despite being hundreds of miles offshore.

Sleeping on the floor of the Texas State Capitol Building

Democrat State Rep. Nicole Collier will remain at the Texas State Capitol on Wednesday after spending the night on the floor of his house’s room. Collier slept in his chair after rejecting a Republican leader who allocated law enforcement officers to monitor the state’s democratic caucus. The order comes after dozens of people fled the state for two weeks in an attempt to halt votes for a new Congress map that would give the GOP an advantage in next year’s election. She shared a picture of her makeshift bed and posted it to X.

Deportation of a 6-year-old student makes a big fuss

The six-year-old student and her family were deported just before the start of the school year in New York. This is a case of fussing statewide – including governors and officials of the nation’s largest public school system.

what happened: The Ecuadorian family was one of the migrants detained in controversial tactics by the Trump administration, attending routine immigration court hearings and ice check-in.

  • Detention upon check-in: A sophomore New York City public school student, along with his mother and brother, went to check-in for immigration and customs enforcement in a federal building in lower Manhattan when the agents were taken into custody, a family lawyer told USA Today. New York City officials confirmed that the student was deported on the morning of August 19th.
  • Isolated Family: The child and mother were sent to the newly reopened South Texas Family Residential Center, a privately run family detention facility in Dilly, Texas, leaving behind two children from the family.
  • Immigration Spotlight School: The incident reaffirms fears about students and families who are targeted for immigration enforcement as the new academic year begins.

The state has banned class calls. This teacher saw the change immediately.

“Today, 100% of my students took notes in my class, did their assignments, asked for help when they got stuck and submitted it, and when they were finished, they spoke to each other. I’ve been pulling out my hair for eight years. Has this been a solution for the whole time?”

~Jonathan Buchwalter, 11th grade history teacher at Tuscaloosa County High School, won nearly 2 million views on Tiktok on August 8th. Buchwalter had an immediate impact when Alabama enacted a new law between 2025 and 2026 that kept calls out of classrooms.

Do you have money or love?

Many Americans probably say dollars more than worship. The median annual salary in the US is around $62,192, but Americans expect an average ideal partner to win six figures, a new survey has found. A Tawkify study of 1,000 Americans shows that women on average want to make $110,000 in their ideal partner, while men expect to make $90,000. People who are unemployed in the rough job market may find themselves in more trouble with their love lives. Almost half of Americans report that they don’t date anyone without a job, even if they are attracted to them.

Today’s Photo: Must-see situation

Only eight teams will win the Little League World Series Trophy on August 24th. Based on the history of the tournament, Taiwan, Japan and Connecticut are one of their favourites, but all remaining teams have serious shots to win everything.
