Democratic states call for halt to SNAP cuts during government shutdown
Democratic-led states have filed lawsuits seeking to halt SNAP cuts, accusing the USDA of violating the Food and Nutrition Act.
Funding for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) is expected to run out on November 1, leaving millions of people without access to nutritious foods. However, there are several meal and grocery delivery services.
SNAP, also known as food stamps, is a federal program that provides monthly stipends for healthy food to low-income individuals. According to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), which administers SNAP, 42 million Americans use the program each month.
Due to the ongoing government shutdown, SNAP is currently lacking the regular federal funds it relies on to operate. The USDA said emergency funds cannot be used to issue monthly allocated benefits. Therefore, beneficiaries will not be able to receive their regular aid in November.

SNAP recipients can get $50 off on groceries through Gopuff
Grocery delivery company Gopuff is offering SNAP recipients $50 off groceries. This deal will be available in two parts during November, each costing $25 to use on SNAP eligible items.
Here’s how SNAP recipients can access Gopuff discounts. Gopuff discounts are implemented in two stages.
- Add your SNAP EBT card to your Gopuff account.
- Add SNAP-eligible groceries to your cart.
- November 1st – November 15th: Use code SNAPRELIEF1 at checkout to get $25 off SNAP eligible items and free shipping.
- Nov. 16-30: Use code SNAPRELIEF2 at checkout to get $25 off SNAP eligible items and free shipping.
DoorDash shipping fees are waived for SNAP recipients
SNAP recipients will be able to use DoorDash on one order during November without paying any additional shipping or service fees, the company announced Oct. 26.
This offer is available to customers who link their SNAP/EBT card as a payment option in their DoorDash profile and place an order at a participating store. They include:

- sprout
- schnucks
- giant foods
- huge company
- hannaford
- stop & shop
- Hy-Vee
- giant eagle
- wegmans
DoorDash says a promo code is required to redeem the offer, but users who upload a SNAP/EBT card as a payment method will see the code in the app during the promotional period, available from November 1st to November 30th.
DoorDash said it will waive fees on about 300,000 orders as part of the promotion.
