The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has launched a separate investigation into approximately 583,600 Honda 7267.T vehicles over potential defects related to rear seatbelt warnings and inadvertent deployment of airbags.

Regulators inspected 142,600 Honda Pilot SUVs to be produced between 2023 and 2024, saying the rear seatbelt warning system could malfunction and falsely warn drivers to fasten their passenger seatbelts.

The second investigation covered 441,000 Honda Odyssey minivans from 2018 to 2022 following complaints of side airbags deploying unexpectedly while the vehicle was in motion, including in incidents involving potholes.

NHTSA said, “If an airbag inadvertently deploys while the vehicle is in motion, it can cause injury or distract the driver, potentially leading to a crash.”

NHTSA has not announced a recall and is evaluating the scope and severity of the problem.
