Wendy’s announces closure of approximately 300 stores nationwide
Fast food chain Wendy’s plans to close hundreds more just a year after closing 140 stores.
Clothing giant H&M plans to close two stores in New York City by January 2026 as part of its plan to close 200 stores in 2025.
H&M has filed a planned closure with the New York Department of Labor. The company’s filing says 62 employees at the store will be laid off, including 31 at the two Manhattan stores.
The two closures are expected to take place by January 19, 2026, according to the filing. Earlier this year, H&M quietly announced in its six-month report that it would close hundreds of stores in 2025.
“More than 200 stores are scheduled to close in 2025, mainly in existing markets,” H&M said.
H&M’s global footprint has declined sharply since the pandemic, with the number of stores down 19% from its peak at the end of 2019, according to Reuters.

In a statement to USA TODAY, H&M said the closures are part of its long-term growth strategy.
H&M said: “While physical stores remain important to us and we will continue to invest in them, having the right stores in the right locations is essential to ensuring our long-term, sustainable growth.” “We are following our normal procedure of working with affected store employees to fill available positions at nearby stores.”
