Former President Bill Clinton is scheduled to take a deposition on February 27th. Both Clintons have denied knowing about Epstein’s criminal activities, but lawmakers say they still have questions.
These Epstein photos feature Trump, Clinton and other VIPs
House Democrats have released dozens of photos from Jeffrey Epstein’s estate showing Bill Clinton, Woody Allen and other alleged sex traffickers.
Congressman James Comer, who is leading the House investigation into sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein, said on February 26 that lawmakers will question former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton about why Epstein raised money for his family’s foundation and why his colleague Ghislaine Maxwell attended his daughter’s wedding.
“At this point, no one is accusing the Clintons of wrongdoing,” Comer (R-Ky.) told reporters before Clinton’s deposition began at the Chappaqua Performing Arts Center near his New York home. “But we have a lot of questions.”
The congressional investigation comes as lawmakers and women who have accused Epstein of abuse are forcing the Justice Department to release 3 million pages of documents related to its criminal investigation. But millions more pages remain sealed, and President Donald Trump says the country should move forward.
Epstein died by suicide in 2019 while awaiting trial on federal charges of child sex trafficking. Maxwell is serving a 20-year sentence for conspiracy to transport minors for illegal sexual activity. Critics of the investigation have questioned why more co-conspirators have not been indicted.
Former President Bill Clinton is scheduled to testify on February 27th, marking the first time Congress has forced a former president to testify, although he has occasionally answered questions voluntarily.
The Clintons claim they had no knowledge of Mr. Epstein’s criminal activities and that they knew little about Mr. Epstein. But Comer said Epstein visited the White House 16 times while Bill Clinton was president and traveled on Epstein’s plane 27 times after he left office.
“This is not a partisan witch hunt,” Comer said, noting that Democrats voted to subpoena the Clintons and joined a resolution that would hold them in contempt if they did not appear. “I don’t think it’s unfair in any way to the Clintons.”
Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick to attend Clinton interrogation
Republican lawmakers said they would ask questions about Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick’s relationship with Epstein. He attended lunch with Mr. Epstein’s family on his private Caribbean island in 2012, and his name appeared in about 10 emails released in the documents.
Lutnick told a Senate committee this month that he saw no criminal activity and had nothing to hide.
“I think there’s a good chance his name will come up in some of the cross-examinations today,” Comer said.
Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) said she would ask about Mr. Lutnick.
“That would be on my list,” Mace said. “I have a printout of the email Hillary asked about Howard Lutnick.”
Fallout continues from Epstein dossier revelations
The impact of document disclosure continues.
Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, who was stripped of his title of prince by his brother King Charles, was arrested on February 19 on suspicion of misconduct over his relationship with Epstein.
Peter Mandelson, the former British ambassador to the United States, was arrested on February 23 on suspicion of misconduct in office related to allegations that he passed confidential documents to Epstein.
