sports pulse
You’ve probably heard of the win-or-go-home game. This is a win-or-stay-at-home contest.
The NFC West has been the best division in the NFL this season and will provide another notable game in prime time Saturday night. The Seattle Seahawks, the division leaders and currently the No. 1 seed in the NFC playoffs, head south for their final regular season game against the San Francisco 49ers.
Both teams have qualified for the playoffs. The 13-3 Seahawks enter this contest with an edge over the 12-4 49ers, but the result could change the NFC standings heading into the postseason.
With the win, San Francisco jumps from the No. 5 seed to the No. 1 seed. Their overall win-loss record is tied with Seattle at 13 wins and 4 losses, but if they win their two head-to-head matches, they will be able to move into a tiebreaker.
Super Bowl 60 will be held at home at Levi’s Stadium, so this gives the 49ers a first-round bye and a chance to play the entire postseason at home.
If Seattle wins, the Seahawks will receive a bye as the No. 1 seed with home-field advantage through the NFC playoffs. If that happens, the 49ers will fall to the No. 5 seed at best. If the Los Angeles Rams beat the Arizona Cardinals, they could become the No. 6 seed, giving Los Angeles a better record against their common opponent.
There’s a lot going on in California on Saturday, and the 49ers are expected to take this opportunity to debut some new jerseys.
