CAIRO – Hamas will release Israeli hostage Edan Alexander in Gaza as part of an effort to reach a ceasefire agreement and allow humanitarian assistance to enter the besieged enclave, a Hamas official told Reuters on May 11.
Freeing Alexander, considered the last surviving American held by extremist Palestinian groups, preceded President Trump’s visit to the Middle East this week.
In a statement, exiled Gaza Hamas chief Khalil al-Khaiya said efforts to promote release were jointly made by Qatar, Egypt and Turkey.
Palestinian extremist groups said it was part of an effort to reach a ceasefire agreement and allow humanitarian assistance to enter the besieged enclave.
