Golden Globe Award nominations have been announced. USA TODAY’s Ralphie Aversa looks at some of the most notable snubs, including “Wicked: For Good.”
- “One Battle After Another” did well in the Golden Globe nominations announced on December 8th, and is emerging as an Oscar contender.
- The Golden Globe Awards will be broadcast on January 11th on CBS and streamed on Paramount+ (8pm ET/5pm PT).
- Leonardo DiCaprio, Emma Stone, and George Clooney were all nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor.
During Oscar season, “One Battle After Another” was nominated for nine Golden Globes, making it an early favorite.
The critically acclaimed film, directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, has been nominated for Best Comedy/Musical, as well as Best Actor for Leonardo DiCaprio and Best Actress for Chase Infinity at the 83rd Golden Globe Awards, which will announce this year’s nominees on December 8th. The January 11th ceremony, with returning host Nikki Glaser, will be broadcast live on CBS and streamed on Paramount+ (8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT). In the TV category, HBO’s The White Lotus topped the list with six nominations (including Best Drama Series), while Netflix’s Adolescence took home five nominations.
Best Motion Pictures and Dramas include “Sentimental Value” (8 total nominations), “Sinners” (7 nominations), “Hamnet,” “It Was an Accident,” “Frankenstein,” and “The Secret Agent.” The other big prize of the night was Best Comedy/Musical, which included “One Battle After Another,” “Marty Supreme,” “Bugonia,” “Blue Moon,” “No Other Choice” and “Nouvelle Vague.”
Michael B. Jordan is nominated for Best Motion Picture Drama Actor, along with Wagner Moura (The Secret Agent), Joel Edgerton (Train Dreams), Dwayne Johnson (Smashing Machines), Jeremy Allen White (Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere), and Oscar Isaac (Frankenstein). Jessie Buckley (“Hamnet”) was nominated for best drama actress, along with Renate Reinsve (“Sentimental Value”), Jennifer Lawrence (“Die My Love”), Tessa Thompson (“Hedda”), Julia Roberts (“After the Hunt”) and Eva Victor (“Sorry Baby”).
Possible Oscar nominees DiCaprio and Timothée Chalamet (“Marty Supreme”) lead the nominations for Best Actor in a Comedy/Musical, with Ethan Hawke (“Blue Moon”), George Clooney (“Jay Kelly”), Jesse Plemons (“Bugonia”) and Lee Byung-hun (“No Other Choice”) also nominated. Cynthia Erivo has been nominated for Best Comedy/Musical Actress for the second year in a row and will be competing against Infinity, Rose Byrne (I Had Legs), Emma Stone (Bugonia), Amanda Seyfried (The Testament of Ang Lee) and Kate Hudson (Song San Bleu).
Erivo’s “Wicked” co-star Ariana Grande returns to the supporting cast, which also includes Emily Blunt (“Smashing Machines”), Teyana Taylor (“One Battle After Another”), Amy Madigan (“Weapons”) and “Sentimental Value” standouts Inga Ebsdotter Lillias and Elle Fanning (“Sentimental Value”). In addition to Benicio Del Toro and Sean Penn from the “One Battle After Another” duo, the race for Best Supporting Actor also includes Jacob Elordi (“Frankenstein”), Stellan Skarsgård (“Sentimental Values”), Paul Mescal (“Hamnet”) and Adam Sandler (“Jay Kelly”).
