British boxer Georgia O’Connor passed away at the age of 25 after a fight with cancer, her promotional company Boxxer said Thursday.
“We are heartbroken by the passing of Georgia O’Connor,” the Box Sector wrote on Instagram. “The boxing community, a true warrior inside and outside the ring, quickly lost a talented, courageous and determined young woman.
“Georgia was loved, respected and admired by her friends here at Box Sexer. Our thoughts are with her loved ones during this difficult time.”
O’Connor said he was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis on social media last year. This is defined as “chronic inflammatory bowel disease in which an abnormal immune system response causes inflammation and ulcers in the inner lining of your large intestine.
She explained that she not only suffers from “extremely intestinal cramps,” but also needs to go to the bathroom 15-20 times a day. She also wrote that she was pregnant and suffered a miscarriage.
In January, O’Connor wrote on Instagram that he was diagnosed with cancer after becoming “continuous pain.”
The fundraising page writes that the mother was set in O’Connor’s honor, and that cancer was “rare and aggressive” and that doctors called it “incurable.”
On May 12, O’Connor wrote on Instagram that he married his partner Adriano and changed his last name to Cardinali.
Super bantamweight world champion Ellie Scottney pays tribute to her longtime friend on Instagram, calling her “the most beautiful person I’ve ever met.”
“I probably rewritten this 100 times, but it’s not the right word yet. “Life is so, so cruel, and it seems to be the best for us.”
“It is so much to be a pure soul and a good person, but you are my friend, the definition of all that words, and more.
“Even when life was on a timer, you never dim your light, with a smile that never faded and nothing you could do.
During his boxing career, O’Connor won gold in the 2017 Commonwealth Youth Games. She became an expert in 2021 and won all three professional matches. Her final battle came in October 2022.
British boxing called O’Connor “a very talented boxer and a much-loved member of the boxing community.”
“Georgia has inspired many with his accomplishments in the ring and his spirit outside,” he said in a statement. “Her dedication, passion and talent have made her a role model for young athletes around the country. Georgia’s legacy continues to live in the hearts of those she was inspired by, and is deeply overlooked by everyone who knows her.”
