KISS co-founder Gene Simmons talks with USA TODAY’s Melissa Ruggeri about decades of touring, stage stunts and more.
Gene Simmons made the comments after reports surfaced that he was involved in a car accident in Malibu, California.
“Thank you everyone for your kind wishes,” Simmons wrote in an Oct. 8 X post. “I’m totally fine. I got a little fender bend. That’s common, especially for us (we) bad drivers. And that’s me. Everything is fine.”
The 76-year-old KISS frontman was driving on the Pacific Coast Highway on Tuesday, October 7, when he crashed into a parked car, according to NBC 4 Los Angeles. Witnesses reportedly called 911, after which Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department officers responded to the scene.
USA TODAY has reached out to LASD and Simmons’ representatives for comment.
Simmons was hospitalized for tests after the accident, police told NBC. Authorities said Simmons gave a detailed description of the crash to first responders, stating that he either passed out or passed out and crashed into a parked vehicle.
Simmons’ wife, Shannon Tweed, told NBC that Simmons is currently recovering at home.
The tireless rocker embarked on a solo tour in the spring with a solo band consisting of Brent Woods on lead guitar, Jason Walker on guitar, and Brian Tichy on drums. In a March interview with USA TODAY, Simmons cheekily revealed the secret to her longevity.
“Do you see my hands?” Simmons said at the time. “They don’t shake, and I’m 75 years old. Kids, stop doing drugs, stop drinking, stop smoking.”
