Tennis player Jessica Pegra discusses how wonderful it is for other great American women in tennis to dominate the sport.
Seriously sports
American tennis star Coco Gauff, 21, is refreshing from her first French Open victory in defeating world number one Arena Sabalenka in the final on Saturday, June 7th. However, after Sabalenka made shocking comments to the media following her loss, Gauff’s celebratory moment was short-lived.
“I think she won the game, not because she played incredible,” Sabalenka said. “Just because I made all those mistakes, from a kind of easy ball, when you look from the outside.”
Sabalenka later retracted some of her comments, praised Gauff for “playing with calm and purpose.”
The original comment has already aired, and Gauff was certainly surprised by her statement.
Coco Goff was “stomped” by Sabalenka’s comment
In response to Sabalenka’s comments, Gauff spoke to “Good Morning America” on Monday. Gouf continued, “I know she was probably a little emotional after that match and it was a tough loss.”
Gouf called Sabalenka “fighter” and “tough opponents,” noting that the windy situation during the finals was very severe in both. That was similarly pointed out by Sabalenka, who stated that Gouf “treated the conditions better.”
