Nadine Arslanian Menendez was convicted of charges filed in the vast indictment filed by federal prosecutors in New York.
Senator Bob Menendez pleaded guilty in all respects
Sen. Bob Menendez is found guilty of all numbers on Tuesday, July 16, 2024 after a lengthy trial and will be sentenced on October 29th.
According to reports, Nadine Arslania’s Menendez, wife of former US Senator Bob Menendez, has been sentenced to more than four years of federal prison and a bribery and corruption scandal.
Arslanian Menendez was convicted of the vast indictment filed by federal prosecutors in the Southern District of New York. Arslanian Menendez was sentenced to prison in federal court in Lower Mantan.
Shortly after the hearing began, U.S. District Judge Sidney Stein said the penalty he planned to level up in Menendez, Alsrania, was “substantially” below the guidelines.
Reports say Arslanian Menendez’s ruling will be followed by a three-year supervised release.
Menendez, his wife, three New Jersey businessmen, Wel Hanna, Fred Daves and Jose Uribe, were charged with coordinating a bribery scheme. Menendez and his wife are said to have received a gift in exchange for his use of political influence.
The federal charges against the group were first sealed in September 2023 and were updated with three indictments charged in October of that year and January and March 2024.
Lawyers for Arslanian Menendez said her sentence for her bribery and corruption conviction should be at least one year, not eight years, as proposed.
Arslanian Menendez couldn’t stand trial with the trio, but her exam was delayed as she was diagnosed with breast cancer. The diagnosis was revealed by his husband during his trial, as initially the court only mentioned it as a “serious condition.”
What did Bob Menendez say?
At the Senator’s trial, his lawyers denounced his wife for helping to lead the plan, calling her “dazzling,” and said they had separate lives while living together.
Arslanian Menendez said her husband’s financial challenges before and while they met, Menendez’s lawyer Avi Weitzman said in her opening remarks during a 2024 federal trial. Weitzman also noted that a now-growing gold stick was found in a locked closet in Arslania, not of Menendez.
Menendez tried to distance himself from his legal strategy after he began sentenced 11 years this summer, in letters written to federal judges and letters written to federal prisons.
“I regret not fully previewing what the defense attorney said about Nadine during the trial and in his total,” Menendez wrote. “It’s simply wrong to suggest that Nadine is hungry or a financial need and therefore seeking help from others.”
Menendez detailed “traumatic events” that influenced his wife from an early age, including nightmares from fleeing Lebanon during the civil war and seeing her father being lured for ransom and dying children.
The former Senator continued in his letter that his wife had suffered an abusive relationship with her ex-boyfriend, which left her hospitalized, resulting in a “serious assault” that lost her smell and taste and brain damage. Menendez said he witnessed the stalker as he began dating her.
Menendez also said his wife was cancer-free for a year, but reconstruction procedures were required.
“Overall, my wife has already suffered more than most people in her lifetime. She’s lost everything she cares about,” Menendez said.
Is Nadine Arslanian Menendez still battling cancer?
Sarah Krissoff, an attorney for Arslanian Menendez, wrote to Stein on September 8th to update him about his client’s medical situation.
Arslanian Menendez made a virtual appointment with a plastic and reconstruction surgeon on August 15th to outline the next steps in her care, including “a wide range of surgery.”
Supplementary notes from Arslanian Menendez’s plastic and reconstructive surgeon said she was suffering from complications from her first breast cancer surgery, requiring additional surgery.
“However, despite multiple surgeries, the patient has merciless pain that disrupts her life so badly,” wrote the doctor whose name was compiled in court documents. “The pain is so bad that it prevents her from sleeping.”
The letter said Menendez of Arslania continued to suffer from other “serious disorder symptoms” related to her cancer surgery.
The doctor said he recommended Menendez undergo multiple “medically necessary procedures” including multiple consecutive surgeries to fix “multiple complex problems.”
One operation is estimated to be 12 hours, and “needs” hospitalization, including physical therapy, and months of recovery.
“Patients need at least one corrective procedure to produce acceptable outcomes,” the doctor wrote. “Each of these surgeries has multiple potential complications, including bleeding, tissue death, open wounds, and blood clots, and other potential risks of death.”
Why did Nadine Arslania’s Menendez need a new car?
Arslanian Menendez attacked and killed a man while driving a Mercedes-Benz on Bogota’s main street in December 2018.
Details of the crash that unfolded in the evening of December 12, 2018 are available at northjersey.com and outlined in the first report of the Bogota Police Station report.
The deceased man, Richard Coop, was settled “for the maximum amount.” Koop’s ex-wife said her family received $60,000 after the lawyer’s fees were withdrawn.
Arslanian Menendez, who began dating Menendez in February 2018 and married a senator in October 2020, was not charged in the case.
A month after the crash, Menendez of Arslania had texted Wel Hana, according to a charge filed by a US lawyer for the Southern District of New York. Hana later offered her a 2019 Mercedes-Benz C-300 convertible.
In his character letter, Menendez said that his wife’s past financial issues were mentioned in her trial about her mortgage and her car payments — the state claimed that it was a bribe payment — was the result of “concerns about potential lawsuits as a result of a car accident, not financial durability.”
“The decision she made to isolate herself from that responsibility was a mistake,” Menendez said.
When will Uribe be declared?
The final player and star witnesses in both exams will be declared on October 9th, after some delays.
Uribe initially filed seven charges of innocence pleas, but later agreed to change it to guilt and cooperate with federal prosecutors. He spent several days testifying against Menendez last summer, allowing him to be bribed.
According to the judicial agreement, Uribe could face up to 95 years in prison, but he was able to gain generosity for his cooperation with federal prosecutors and testimony against other defendants.
The failed insurance broker told the ju judge that the senator had bribeed Menendez and his wife in exchange for killing a friend’s prosecution and suspending a criminal investigation that threatened his company.
Uribe has admitted to making hidden payments in the new Mercedes in Menendez, Arslania, after summing up his own Mercedes in the 2018 Bogota crash.
