A fan who fell on a field at PNC Park a week before he was identified as Kaban Markwood, took his first step on Monday since the incident, according to a fundraiser post set up by Markwood’s girlfriend’s mother.

Alona Brown’s mother, Jennifer Phillips, said autumn’s first step since fall “has definitely lifted everyone’s spirits,” but he admitted that there’s a long way to go.”

“It’s a slow process, but seeing him moving was a big victory,” Phillips wrote.

“He has broken his neck, collarbone and back, so there are a lot of obstacles ahead. But he shows true strength and we are still hopeful for a smooth recovery.

The incident happened in seven innings in Wednesday’s game between the Chicago Cubs and the Pittsburgh Pirates.

The 20-year-old fell from the right field wall onto the field and was listed in danger. You can see players from both teams kneeling, while the other teams have their hands on their heads with concern for Markwood.

The autumn is being treated as an accident, police said.

Both the Pirate and Cubs players went to their knees with concern for Markwood.

“I appreciate all the love, support and good vibe. It really means a lot as he keeps everything moving forward. #KavanStrong.”

A fundraiser organized to support Markwood’s medical expenses raised nearly $43,000 Tuesday morning.

Markwood graduated from South Allegheny High School in 2022. The school said in a post sent to CNN that he was the team MVP of the soccer team and earned the honors of the first team’s all-conference.

Markwood played college football at Walsh University and Wheeling University.
