Grace Kim produced one of the most notable comebacks you’ve ever seen when she concluded the Evian Championship to become the fifth Australian woman to win the golf major.
The 24-year-old was three shots from the lead on four holes to play in the final round on Sunday, but closed with birdies, birdies, pars and eagles, drawing levels at the top of the leaderboard with Thai Gino Chitickle and leaderboards.
However, the comeback seemed to end early as he hit a second shot on the first playoff hole to No. 18 Green Pond.
But surprisingly, Kim switched from where he dropped to force the playoffs to the second hole. There he sunk a 20-foot Eagle Putt to seal off the most unlikely victory.
“Obviously, that’s a huge achievement for me,” Kim said according to Reuters. “I had a lot of questions earlier this year, I was unmotivated.
“We had to have a tough conversation with our team. Yeah, we had to wake up a little. It’s definitely surreal to sit next to this trophy.”
Kim, who fought the cold throughout the tournament, has struggled on the LPGA Tour since winning the Lotte Championship in 2023, her rookie season, Hawaii.
She only recorded one top-10 finish in her last 11 appearances per Reuters, falling to number 100 in the world earlier this year.
However, after securing her second LPGA Tour title, Kim joined the exclusive Australian women’s golf company.
Australia’s Minzie Lee, who is also a major winner, was watching from the side of the green as Kim sank the winning putt.
Seven-time major winners Karrie Webb and three-time winners Jan Stephenson and Hannah Green also make up the finest clubs.
“I walked 18 when I saw a photo of Curry as I stepped into the locker room.
“Obviously, this was Minsy’s first major, and this is mine too.”
