Evangeline Lilly said she will be starting the new year with health concerns, an uphill battle and plenty of rest.
‘Ant-Man and the Wasp’ star reveals he has brain damage after an accident in Hawaii where he passed out and landed face-first on a rock.
“The verdict is in…I have brain damage due to (traumatic brain injury). I am relieved to know that my cognitive decline is not just perimenopausal, but uncomfortable knowing how much of an uphill battle it will be to reverse my cognitive decline,” she posted on Instagram on January 2nd.
In a video recorded on Jan. 1, the “Lost” actress said brain scans confirmed “decreased function in almost every area of the brain.”
“But my job now is to work things out with the doctors and start the hard work of fixing it. I’m not looking forward to it, because I think all I’m doing is working hard. But that’s okay,” she added.
Evangeline Lilly has suffered from power outages since childhood
Although the injury in Hawaii was traumatic, “it wasn’t surprising for a Canadian writer who has suffered from ‘absences’ and fainting spells since childhood,” Lilly wrote in a May 30 Substack essay.
Lily said doctors tested her for epilepsy when she was younger and diagnosed her with hypoglycemia without testing.
“For the better part of my life, I have lived with hypoglycemia,” she wrote. “But as I got older and other health issues started to become an issue, my doctor started doing more frequent blood tests. What was interesting was that even after I passed out after a 12-hour fast, my blood sugar never returned to low. Hypoglycemia seemed to be ruled out.”
Lilly said the power outage episode was not fully explained, adding that she had to settle without knowing its cause. Her husband, Norman Cali, said: She appears to die during the episode.
After doctors confirmed she had cognitive decline since suffering a blow to the face, Lily said she was able to slow down and finish 2025 peacefully.
“I think this was the calmest, most restful Christmas vacation I’ve had, probably since I had kids. So 14 years ago. That’s a good thing,” she said. “I feel incredibly grateful and blessed to be able to play another day and another year on this beautiful, living planet. This is the latest update on my concussion. Thank you to everyone for your concern.”
