The only survivor of the deadly lunch mixed with toxic mushrooms felt that he was only half alive on Monday after the death of his wife, and he said he continued to grieve over the loss of his two closest friends.

Ian Wilkinson read the first victim impact statement in the Victoria Supreme Court at the hearing of Erin Patterson’s ruling.

Ju-dean killed 50-year-old Patterson in July, in July 2023, during lunch with Death Mushroom, who foraged Wilkinson’s wife Heather Wilkinson, sister Gail Patterson, and husband Don Patterson.

Erin Patterson was also found guilty of spending several weeks in the hospital and attempting to kill Ian Wilkinson, who survived after receiving a liver transplant.

Wilkinson, a Baptist pastor, described his wife as a woman who takes faith seriously and is full of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, kindness, faithfulness and self-control.

“I feel like I’m only half alive without her,” Wilkinson said before crying.

“It’s one of the tragic shortcomings of our society, with very little attention being paid to those who do evil and those who do good,” he added.

He described Gale and Don Patterson, parents of Simon Patterson, Erin Patterson’s estranged husband, as the people closest to him after his wife and family.

“My life is greatly impoverished without them,” Wilkinson said.

“I suffer from Erin acting in merciless and calculated neglect of my life and the lives of those I love. Do you have the stupidity to think that murder is the solution to her own problems, especially the murder of those who have nothing but good intentions towards her?” he added.

Wilkinson offered Patterson his forgiveness for the harm she had done to him.

“I say, ‘The harm that was inflicted on me.’ We have no power or responsibility to forgive the harm caused to others,” Wilkinson said.

“My prayer for her is that she should use her time wisely in prison to become a better person,” he added.

Erin Patterson attended Melbourne Court in person on Monday, rather than watching it via video links from the prison that he attended at the hearing earlier this month. She wore a light brown jacket and a paisley top.

The relatives of seven victims either read the impact statement or asked the court to read it on their behalf on Monday.

The sentencing hearing is scheduled to continue on Tuesday.

She faces a potential life sentence for each of the murders and 25 years of attempted murder.
