June 11 (Reuters) – Billionaire businessman Elon Musk said Wednesday that he regretted several posts last week about President Donald Trump, saying he was “too far away.”
Trump said Saturday that his relationship with Musk ended with Tesla TSLA.O and SpaceX CEOs describing the president’s sweeping tax and spending bill as “unpleasant hatred” after shaming on social media.
Musk has since removed several posts that are critical of Trump. This includes one signal support to help the president each, sources close to the world’s wealthiest man say his rage begins to sink and they want to repair his relationship.
“I regret some of my posts about President Donald Trump last week. They went too far,” Musk wrote in a post on his social media platform X on Wednesday, not to mention the specific posts he is talking about.
After Musk’s post, Frankfurt Tesla shares rose 2.7%.
Musk has praised Republicans for bankrolling most of Trump’s 2024 presidential election, spending nearly $300 million on last year’s US election, and for keeping Republicans in the House and seizing a majority in the Senate.
Trump then named him and worked to reduce the federal workforce and cut spending.
Musk left the role after criticising Trump’s marquee tax bill late last month, calling it too expensive and taking measures to undermine his work with government efficiency.
Declaring their relationship on Saturday, Trump said there will be “severe consequences” if Musk decides to fund US Democrats against Republicans voting on the tax and spending bill. Trump also said he has no intention of repairing his relationship with Musk.
On Monday, Trump said it’s fine for Musk to make a call and although there were no plans to cancel the Starlink satellite internet provided to the White House by Musk’s SpaceX, he may move his Tesla offsite.
“We had a good relationship and I hope he is well,” Trump said. Musk responded with a heart emoji to an X video showing Trump’s remarks.
