A satirical website urging President Donald Trump’s youngest son Barron to be drafted into the military appeared online in the wake of the deadly U.S. and Israeli attack on Iran, quickly gaining attention for its sharp timing and over-the-top praise of the president’s family.
The site, DraftBarronTrump.com, was created by comedy writer Toby Morton, who previously worked on South Park and Mad TV, according to his personal website and Variety. Morton describes himself as the “creator of anti-fascist websites” and is known for registering domain names that appear official but redirect to parody pages impersonating celebrities or organizations.
Morton has launched a number of similar sites targeting politicians, religious leaders and organizations, including parody pages targeting the Trump Kennedy Center, Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene, Andrew Cuomo, televangelist Joel Osteen and Texas Governor Greg Abbott.
DraftBarronTrump.com assumes a patriotic tone, exaggerating praise for Trump and his family. The site’s landing page says, “America is strong because our leaders are strong.” “Naturally, his son Baron is ready to defend the country his father boldly commands. Service is an honor. Strength is inherited. Dog blessings to Baron.”
The website also features fabricated satirical quotes attributed to the president and his eldest sons, Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump, portraying them as enthusiastic supporters of Mr. Barron’s hypothetical military service.
The White House did not respond to requests for comment. An email sent through the DraftBarronTrump.com contact form did not immediately elicit a response.
What is Barron Trump doing?
Barron Trump is the youngest of President Donald Trump’s five children and his only child with First Lady Melania Trump. The 19-year-old is a second-year student at New York University’s Stern School of Business and prefers to stay out of the public eye, but at around 6 feet 7 inches tall, it’s difficult to do so.
“He’s an amazing young man and we’re so proud of him,” Melania Trump said on Fox Business Network’s “Mornings with Maria” on January 29. “This time it’s very different because he’s 19 years old and he was 10 the first time. He understands politics and he’s giving advice to his father and talking about it. It’s very different.”
Barron recently made a public appearance at the president’s State of the Union address on February 24, where he attended along with other members of the Trump family.
