Trump’s threat to the former New Jersey governor comes after the FBI searched the home and office of another Trump critic, former national security adviser John Bolton, as part of a criminal investigation.

WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump threatened to open an investigation targeting Chris Christie about the 10-year-old “Bridgegate” scandal of the former New Jersey governor after Christie criticised Trump on television earlier in the day.
The threat comes days after the FBI searched the home and office of John Bolton, a former national security adviser, another Trump critic, as part of an open criminal investigation. Trump slammed into former friend-turned enemy Christie on the evening of August 24th on True Social, saying he only saw “sloppy Chris Christie” on ABC this week.
“Can everyone believe what the sloppy Chris says?” Trump wrote. “Remember how you lied about the dangerous and fatal closure of George Washington Bridge? To get away from prison, you sacrificed people who worked for him at the same time, and at the same time, you sacrificed people, including your young mother, who were trying to make a vicious accusation against her.”
Trump added: “Chris refused to be held responsible for these criminal acts. For justice, perhaps we should start looking at that very serious situation again? No one is beyond the law!”
As New Jersey’s Republican governor, Christie’s “Bridgegate” scandal came in 2013 when the top officials in his administration ordered the closure of access lanes to the George Washington Bridge in a bizarre scheme to create traffic jams to return to the Democratic mayor who did not support Christie’s reelection bid.
Christie was not charged with a crime, but two officials in his administration overturned a federal conviction in 2020, while two officials in his administration were there.
Christie, a former close Trump alliance who led Trump’s 2016 presidential transition team, is today one of the president’s most outspoken Republican critics. Christie was the only Republican candidate to regularly attack Trump in the 2024 Republican primary.
Trump did not specify what Christie said in the ABC look that caused him. Christie accused Trump of politicizing the Justice Department when he was interviewed on the show.
“We were told this is what he was trying to do,” Christie said. “Not me, it’s by Donald Trump during the 2024 campaign. He said he was trying to do this. He said he has a Department of Justice that will act as a personal legal representative. That’s what they’re doing.”
Christie made a jab with Trump for searching for FBIs in Bethesda, Maryland, home and Washington, DC offices.
“I think it’s a bit funny to hear the president speak about information that was classified as Bolton in the way he does, but when he classified the information, the same rules didn’t apply,” Christie said.
In an interview “This Week,” Christie also suggested comments from Jeffrey Epstein’s accomplice, Gislaine Maxwell. There, Trump is praised for being “heartedly” and “kind” as saying he has not committed any crimes of fraud.
“She said she might have taken Donald Trump, or President Trump, “No one who can forgive me has ever done anything wrong. People who can forgive me have always been great,” Christie said.
