President Donald Trump, who is currently friendly with New York Mayor-elect Zoran Mamdani and is running against Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene, is sporting a colorful new look.
Surprisingly friendly meeting between President Trump and Zoran Mamdani
USA TODAY’s Joey Garrison breaks down the surprisingly friendly meeting between President Donald Trump and New York Mayor-elect Zoran Mamdani.
The week before Thanksgiving, there was a rainbow of emotions emanating from President Donald Trump’s White House.
President Trump praised Democratic Socialist New York City Mayor-elect Zoran Mamdani, mocked his former ally Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene, and urged Congressional Republicans to change course on the Jeffrey Epstein file.
And Trump, known for wearing black and blue suits with bright ties, is embracing color again. On November 22, he emerged from the White House wearing a burgundy shawl-like scarf and a long black wool coat.
Left-leaning journalist Aaron Looper wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “I’m paying a lot of attention to Trump today,” apparently noting the change in Trump’s clothing choices. President Trump was traveling to join golf icon Jack Nicklaus at Andrews Air Force Base, about 40 minutes from Washington, D.C.
He told a crowd of reporters that Nicklaus, owner of Nicklaus Design, an internationally acclaimed golf course design and construction firm, plans to rebuild two golf courses and additional recreational facilities on base. President Trump, who owns 12 golf courses in the United States, said the government-run courses are in “very bad shape.”
He also took time to shake up Greene, the outgoing Georgia congresswoman, again the day after she announced her resignation on the night of Nov. 21. “I just don’t agree with her philosophy,” Trump told reporters.
Trump added on the South Lawn: “She started supporting probably the worst Republican in the history of our country, you know, this stupid guy named Massie.” “I told her to go her own way and once I broke up with her, she resigned because she couldn’t survive the primary, but I think she’s a good person.”
Greene will resign from the House of Representatives on January 5 next year. “I plan to return to my loved ones and live life to the fullest, just as I always have,” she said on social media. President Trump faced widespread online controversy earlier in the day after he shared a hug with New York Mayor-elect Mamdani during a meeting in the Oval Office on Nov. 21.
Will President Trump chart a new course with Mamdani?
President Trump has previously demanded that Mamdani be arrested if he does not cooperate with the government’s sweeping crackdown on immigration, and has opposed giving federal funds to New York due to Mamdani’s far-left politics. Meanwhile, Mamdani has previously called Trump a fascist and said in his election night victory speech earlier this month that he was ready to confront the president over immigration policy.
The first meeting between the two men was initially seen as contentious, but Trump appeared satisfied. “I’m looking to help him, not hurt him. It’s going to be a big help, because I want New York City to be great,” Trump said.
“The president wants to see home prices go up, more homes built, more apartments built…People will be shocked, but I want to see the same thing,” the president said. Less than a week before American families ate their Thanksgiving meals, a colorful change of heart appeared at President Trump’s table and under his coat.
